Abstract : Since the introduction of high-speed digital computers and associated software systems there has been considerable effort directed toward utilizing the digital computer to simulate the behavior of various types of linear and nonlinear systems. Design engineers use such simulation programs to study system characteristics and evaluate proposed designs without having to actually construct the system or its subsystems in the laboratory. Design errors may be detected and alternate designs quickly evaluated by using such a tool. The performance under adverse environments such as a nuclear radiation environment may also be simulated. Frequently these environments are very difficult to obtain and control in the laboratory. Several large programs have been written to accomplish the simulation of various kinds of systems. Two important areas of simulation which have received attention are (1) the simulation of systems composed exclusively of digital switching elements, and (2) the simulation of analog electronic circuitry.
