Abstract : The dynamics of cable arrays suspended in the ocean were investigated using descrete element methods. Computer simulations were used to predict the array response to oceanic currents and to investigate cable tensions and array motions during installation. The latter study was used by a cable-laying ship in order to achieve the desired array configuration. A comparison of observed array dynamic parameters and their predicted values indicated errors on the order of 10% in the computer simulations. (Author)
