Abstract : The purpose of the desert test was to determine the adequacy of the HH-53C systems and components during operation in a desert environment. Specific test objectives were to: (1) Determine the adequacy of the HH-53C systems components and ground equipment for operation as specified in the aircraft model specification; (2) Determine human requirements, i.e., the techniques or limitations involved to enable men to maintain and fly the aircraft in a desert environment; (3) Verify and amplify the results of the climatic laboratory tests as well as to determine additional deficiencies revealed by the increased operational capability over that available in the climatic laboratory; (4) Test modifications, fixes, and procedures, etc., determined by previous evaluations; (5) Determine the desert and hot weather operating procedures to be included in the Flight Manual; (6) Compile environmental data for future fixes, modifications, and design purposes.
