Abstract : During this quarter the overall philosophy, including definition of the major research tenets and the means by which the end results will be used, was formulated. The total digital system was separated into transmitter, coupling path, and receiver components to facilitate investigations. An analytical model for this system was developed and will subsequently be used to reveal the interference effects in receivers caused by undersired transmitter emissions. Receiver investigations resulted in the establishment of a performance degradation measure sensitive to interference from transmitters. This performance measure is based on signal-to-interference-plus-noise ratios; therefore, it yields worst-case results and is conservative for receiver bit error rates. Transmitter investigations were directed toward development of a generalized computer program using fast Fourier transforms to determine output spectra for different modulation structures. This program was used to generate the output spectrum for a four-phase differential phase shift keying modulation.
