Abstract : A 4-month program was undertaken in four tasks areas: (1) analysis, (2) experimental work, (3) sensor design, and (4) technology development forecast. Task 1 consisted of a study of the application of current state of the art upconversion technology as a 10.6-micrometer diagnostic sensor. Task 2 consisted of design and operation of an experiment to determine the present limiting resolution capability of upconversion as applied to diagnostic sensing, and whether a resolution in the upconverted image of 100 x 100 line pairs can be achieved. Task 3 consisted of preparation of conceptual design specifications for each identified subsystem block to achieve the per formance requirements. Task 4 consisted of determining technology advancements required should current limitations prevent accomplishment of the required performance. (Author)
