Abstract : Voice and visual interior communication (IC) requirements for new-construction aircraft carriers were developed from an extensive study conducted aboard deployed CVA's operating in the SIXTH and SEVENTH Fleets. The functional requirements which were derived provide balance between integration and separation of IC services required to support CVA operations. Nine IC services and associated terminal types were identified and defined to accomplish the above. In the process, the number of current terminals were condensed and amalgamated or transferred into the appropriate one of the drived services, in accordance with operational needs. Parallel services for redundancy were included, and proper consideration was given to security and the need to isolate certain IC facilities which routinely route highly classified information. Characteristics and features were specified for the nine services, in accordance with observed and anticipated operational demands and voice-traffic analyses. Overall requirements, nonspecific to particular services or terminals, were also cited as part of the IC functional requirements derived in the report. Incremental IC improvements for Aircraft Readiness are identified for existing (retrofit) CVA's. (Author)
