Abstract : This report covers an investigation of known digital switching techniques to determine the most suitable technique for future switching applications. In addition, a digital switching matrix was designed, installed in the existing Integrated Circuit and Message Switch (ICMS) feasibility model, and tested. This matrix was designed to operate exclusively as a Pulse Code Modulation (PCM) matrix at 64 kbs, or as a delta-modulation matrix for 19.2 kbs and 38.4 kbs. These matrices were operated concurrently with the existing Space Division matrix under the control of a single processor. (Author)
