Abstract : This program was conducted to obtain high-speed performance characteristics for the BAK-13/F48A arresting system. All test procedures, limitations, and modifications were determined by the Air Force. Initial tests (Phase I) indicated the need for design modifications which would effectively reduce the system's susceptibility to tape tucks. A total of 174 ON-CENTER arrestments of deadloads weighing from 25,000 to 85,000 lbs were conducted at speeds ranging from 118 to 200 knots. These tests have resulted in the establishment of the performance envelope presented in this report. The modifications incorporated into the system did not effectively reduce the system's susceptibility to tape tucks.
