Abstract : An investigation involving isostatic pressing of large-diameter plastic-bonded explosive billets was completed at the Naval Weapons Center, China Lake, California. This unique method eliminates time-consuming machining of each billet as required when using the bag method. By including a taper-bored chamber, the all-metal die serves both as a means of forming and ejecting the pressed billet. This method may have possible applications in fabrication of high-quality, large-diameter warheads. (Author)
