Abstract : An engineer design test of the Rough Terrain Tactical Air Cargo Loader was conducted at Yuma Proving Ground, Arizona, to verify that the loader meets the specified reliability requirements of a MTBF of not less than 300 hours with a minimum reliability of .997 for a 1/2-hour mission with a confidence factor of 0.90. The Tactical Air Cargo Loader (TACL) will be assigned to designated USAF Aerial Port Units for the primary purpose of supporting contingency air terminal operations. The loader will be used for the purpose of aircraft on/off loading operations and transporting of cargo over adverse terrain to and from the aircraft. The air cargo loader was subjected to 2,530 miles and 384 vehicle hours of operation over the Yuma Proving Ground paved and off-road courses, with and without payload. The hydraulic system was subjected to 430 cycles of lifting/lowering, pitch and roll at 25-mile intervals during the test.
