Abstract : This report summarizes the total work effort on a program to develop efficient high-power antenna matching networks capable of high-speed electronic tuning and suitable for manpack or airborne applications in both the 30 - 76 MHz and 2 - 80 MHz frequency ranges. Included in this report are the final test results and performance characteristics of the 2 - 80 MHz coupler, a complete description of this coupler, and a comprehensive analysis of the overall requirements and resulting system design. Significant results of the experimental study effort which directly influenced the final design of the 40-watt network are reviewed and final conclusions drawn. Recommendations for improvement in the system are presented. In addition, a discussion of the requirements on a completely automatic coupler system are given along with recommendations for a logic system to use with the 2 - 80 MHz coupler network. Operation of the 2 - 80 MHz network with its test control chassis is discussed, and a tuning flow diagram for system operation is presented. A summary of the first phase of the contract, the development of 10-watt and 100-watt matching networks over the 30 - 76 MHz range, is then given. Final design descriptions and test data are shown for both networks. Subjects covered include application and evaluation of suitable network element devices and ferrite material characteristics, network tuning requirements and tuning procedure, and conclusions from the results of the overall study effort.
