Abstract : The report describes the conceptualization of combined, on-chip, storage and logic from the standpoint of (1) modeling the requirements and constraints imposed on the data processing functions to be performed, and (2) conceptualization of hybrid technologies involving both ion implant propagation circuits and optical waveguide techniques for bubble detection. Some considerations relating to submicrometer bubbles are also discussed. Experimental device work was confined primarily to ion implant propagation circuits, with some additional effort on E-beam processed circuits suitable for submicrometer diameter bubbles. Computer modeling of combined storage and logic has not yet proved very fruitful, but the results indicated a basic problem: the complexity of control. As a result, emphasis has been placed on minimizing external control through either optimized storage/logic configurations or stochastic control. Experimental work on ion-implant circuits has produced a novel major/minor loop field access circuit that has advantages over conventional Permalloy circuits.
