Abstract : The room temperature aging of graphite reinforced epoxy composites is known to reduce their high-temperature strength properties. This strength loss is primarily due to the plasticization of the resin by water. Cyanate resins are investigated for their ability to perform better than epoxy resins in this application. Several modifications are made to the resin system and a five-fold reduction in equilibrium moisture content is achieved (5% to 1%). This achievement, however, does not lead to better retention of the high-temperature properties of the composites. (Author-PL)
