Abstract : The objectives of the work reported were to define potentially useful failure prediction models for the wear and fretting-wear modes of failure, to define the parameters of primary importance, to incorporate the concept of accelerated testing both in the prediction models and in the design of a testing program, and to design special testing machines capable of both real-time and accelerated-wear and fretting-wear tests using a UH-1H helicopter cyclic servo support bearing as the test specimen. This particular component was selected because it was a relatively simple example of an actual component in which both wear and fretting-wear failure modes had been regularly observed in the field.
