Abstract : Two groups of monkeys received discriminated training within either classical or instrumental paradigms. Instrumental animals made more unelicited skin conductance responses during avoidance than during punishment, and showed higher heart rates than classical animals. Conclusions suggested the practicality of bringing autonomic arousal under stimulus control.
