Abstract : The basic question is whether the Foreign Area Officer Program, developed as a result of the amalgamation of the Foreign Area Specialist and the Military Assistance Officer Programs, can produce the trained, capable officer to function in the politico-military environment of the 1970's and 80's. Research data were gathered from available military libraries and through personal interviews with officers currently involved in operating the program at the Department of the Army level. A review is conducted of each contributing program from inception to amalgamation and problems existent in each are highlighted.
