Abstract : An advanced planning study was performed to improve and better utilize the supersonic combustion research facility of the Air Force Aerospace Research Laboratories. Two computer programs (utilizing a one-dimensional gasdynamic model with pseudo-equilibrium hydrogen-air chemistry) were developed and used in parametric studies to determine the effects of mixing on thermal choking and to analyze combustion chamber design. The operating envelopes for an actual scramjet combustion chamber were determined and compared with the operating envelope of the ARL supersonic combustion facility.
