Abstract : Two stable states of high-speed strut flow are considered in three dimensions under linear boundary conditions. The strut is thin, symmetric, without angle of attack, and has base-ventilation or base cavitation without side cavitation. The strut and cavity are represented by polynomial source distributions with unknown coefficients on the center plane. Coefficients of the polynomial for the cavity are obtained as solutions for integral equations of cavity source, using a least-squares method. All the singular double integrals in the present problem are integrated in closed forms by using recurrence formulas. Thus, common errors due to numerical integration of the singular integrals are avoided. Approximate cavity shape and cavity drag are obtained. Downwash is calculated at the hydrofoil plane, which is assumed to be located at the tip of and perpendicular to the strut.
