Abstract : A review is made of major experimental, fully submerged, high-speed hydrofoil programs, concentrating on base-ventilated, supercavitating, and fully-ventilated, types, for the purpose of assessing the need for future experimental work. A discussion is made of the conclusions from the programs, which are grouped by categorical areas with some redundancy. Some special attention is centered on the correlation of results between different facilities, and on those foil properties which affect the lift and lift-to-drag ratio. A few proposals are made for the extension of the research effort.
