Abstract : Many modern communication and radar systems in the USAF transmit and receive sophisticated waveforms. To detect these waveforms in the presence of noise, the received waveform must be correlated with all the transmitted waveforms that may have been sent. The large number of these waveforms and their length in symbols often precludes the use of analogue correlation and necessitates the use of digital correlation. This study of transforms over finite fields opens the possibility of discovering new fast digital correlation techniques for communication and radar problems. It is felt that such techniques will enhance fast Fourier transform methods used presently to yield fast digital convolution. (Author)
