Abstract : As part of a personnel research program, an analysis was conducted of 66 marine mammal trainer behaviors for which high inter-judge disagreement had been obtained on ratings of quality of performance. Fourteen trainer/judges from the Naval Undersea Research and Development Center (NUC), Hawaii, and three West Coast Oceanariums served as subjects. The purpose of the study was to define any areas of systematic disagreement among trainer/judges which could be explored further through marine mammal trainer workshops and empirical research studies with the aim of advancing the art and science of marine mammal training.
