Abstract : The Gruman fine Spectral resolution (FSR) computer program for the calculation of infrared radiation emitted by rocket exhuast plumes has been modified to include the radiation from HCl and HF. Thr resulting program predicts the infrared emission from plumes containing H20, C02, C0, HCl, and Hf gases, and fine carbon particles as radiating species. The Single Line Group band model, employing a modified Curtis-Godson approximation, has been used to represent the relative heat transfer. Computations are performed with varying wavenumber intervals of 5, 10 or 25/cm, which are determined by available band model data. Sample spectra between 2 and 5 microns are presented for idealized exhaust plumes of two rocket engines, one a solid propellant and the other burning CIF3/N2H4. FSR predicted radiant intensitites for HCl and HF are compared to laboratory measurements. (Author)
