Abstract : It appears to be appropriate to attempt further verification of the modified theory and hence to make recommendations regarding improved strength standards, with respect to springing, of Great Lakes bulk carriers. The present report describes further work in two principal areas: further verification of the available theory for calculating springing stresses, and applying the theory to determination of trends with varying ship characteristics and a recommended procedure for establishing standards of strength for springing.
