Abstract : There are many examples in nature of the occurrence of longitudinal trailing vortices in the lee of surface-mounted obstacles in a turbulent boundary layer. The vortices may be either horseshoe vortices or the well-known roof-corner vortices. This dissertation reports an experimental and theoretical investigation of surface-obstacle wakes which contain organized longitudinal vorticity.
