Abstract : The design, implementation, and evaluation of an adaptive scheduling algorithm for the MUNIX operating system is reported here. MUNIX, a multiprocessing version of UNIX, was designed to run on a dual PDP 11/45 multiprocessor system. Topics covered include: a survey of adaptive scheduling, laboratory equipment configuration, scheduling with MUNIX, benchmark testing, and non-adaptive scheduling changes. Conclusions and suggestions for possible improvements are also included. (Author)
