Abstract : The FORTRAN Compiler Validation System (FCVS) is used to validate FORTRAN compilers and to insure their conformance to the language specifications as defined in American Standard FORTRAN X3.9-1966. This initial version of the FCVS is based on the intersection of X3.9-1966 and its successor American National Standard Programming Language FORTRAN X3.23-1977. The programs making up the FCVS are designed such that they can be exercised using FORTRAN compilers resident on mini-computers as well as larger computer systems. The system consists of a comprehensive set of audit routines, their related data, and an executive routine which prepares the audit routines for compilation in a particular hardware/operating system environment. Each audit routine is a FORTRAN program which includes several tests and supporting procedures indicating the results of the tests. The executive routine provides a method for resolving implementor unique features within the source FORTRAN programs. The executive routine also provides the user with a means for updating source programs.
