Abstract : This report introduces a systematic approach to the design of algorithms for evaluating the corrected slant range in a radar surveillance system. Applications include air traffic control (ATC) operations requiring real-time continuous comptutation for a multitude of targets without overtaxing available computational resources. From the point of view of accuracy, utilization of memory, and computational speed, the design technique is capable of providing an algorithm that is superior to the corrected slant range technique presently employed in the National Airspace System (NAS).
