Abstract : Angle-of arrival fluctuations from propagation through a nuclear dust cloud pedestal have been identified as a potential source of system degradation for a ground-based tracking radar. This note investigates these angle-of-arrival fluctuations as measured by a 3 meter diameter lens type antenna operating at an RF wavelength of 3 centimeters. Since large uncertainties exist in the current knowledge of the dust environment, this investigation is performed parametrically over what are estimated to be reasonable ranges of the key variables involved. The effects of antenna aperture taper, target elevation, radar height, dust material properties, dust distribution with height and also the size distribution of the irregularities are investigated.
