Abstract : ASO continues to have major problems with the accuracy of its requirements determinations. Its automated requirements system contains vast amounts of invalid data, which has caused requirements to be significantly overstated. As a result, extensive manual adjustments are needed before data can be used for determining what items and how many to buy. For example, the automated requirements system computed buy requirements during the May 4, 1980, cycle totaling $495 million. However, after manual adjustments, the inventory managers reduced the buy requirements to $26 million--a $469 million reduction.
