Abstract : This report proposes the use of a modal superposition approach for the nonlinear transient response analysis of structures. The acceleration residue flexibility procedure, which incorporates the static response at each time, is coupled to the modal superposition method. The nonlinearities are taken into account by using updated stiffness information in the static response. The effectiveness of the method is derived from the use of efficient reanalysis techniques to calculate the static solutions.
