Abstract : An axisymmetric numerical model of a liquid spray is presented. The model consists of coupled sets of partial differential equations for the gas phase and ordinary differential equations for the liquid phase. A numerical method based on the MAC method is presented and calculations show good agreement with experiment. The effect of a ceiling on the entrainment performance of a spray is found to be negligible. The examination of the calculated pressure field shows that pressure does not play an important role in the flow and may be ignored. This is in agreement with experiment and contributes additional validation to existing models which ignore this effect. (Author)
