Abstract : Retrofit enclosure of gas furnaces to supply outside combustion and dilution air may save up to 6 percent of natural gas usage in cold climates. The cost effectiveness of this retrofit should be calculated for each opportunity as insta lled costs will vary widely depending on local building codes and furnace location. A freezing hazard exists for water heaters and lines which might be encloseded with furnace.
