Abstract : The exhaust flow from the funnel of the RAN Amphibious Heavy Lift Ship has been investigated visually in a low-speed wind tunnel, using a 1/48 scale model. The effectiveness of the funnel as designed was found to be unsatisfactory and a funnel configuration, increased in height by 4.57 metres (15 feet), was then developed which eliminated contamination of a helicopter parked on the aft landing/servicing deck for the selected test conditions.
