Abstract : The POSEIDON Buoy roll control mechanism was evaluated to determine the best configuration of gain, pendulum moment, rudder span, and chord length. The results indicate that 3 to 1 gain; a 34-in. lb (3.84-Nm) pendulum moment; a 4.5-in. (11.4-cm) rudder span; and a 2.81-in. (7.14-cm) chord length providing a 31.2 percent pivot point, with reference to the leading edge of the flap, yields a combination that minimizes roll. (Author)
