Abstract : Optimal control of the deformable mirror in a High Energy Laser was used to reduce the effects of atmospheric turbulence. The performance characteristics of an optical detector with one or four sub-apertures were estimated. These estimated performance characteristics were then used to determine the regime where four sub-apertures gave better performance than one sub-aperture for no time delay and for a one millisecond delay.
