Abstract : The method of pulsed excitation is used to study the rates of population and de-population of energy levels of molecules. Optical measurements are made with the aid of laser-spectroscopic techniques. Application to a helium discharge yields collisional quenching rates. Preliminary studies on nitrogen molecules are reported. (Author)
