Abstract : New roofs with cellular plastic insulation and a bituminous built-up membrane were surveyed with a hand-held infrared camera to determine its effectiveness in detecting damp and wet insulation. Wet areas were found and defined with the help of 2-in.-diam. core samples. The results of the tests showed the infrared camera can be useful and effective as an inspection tool within the time constraints of the typical one-year warranty period. The tests also underlined the importance of core samples for verification. (Author)
