Abstract : The major industrial operations at Tyndall AFB involving hazardous chemicals and wastes have been in existence since the 1960's, and include aircraft washing, stripping and painting; pneudraulics repair; engine and bearing cleaning; AGE maintenance; and the NDI lab activities. Since no large-scale industrial operations have been conducted at Tyndall AFB, the quantities of waste oils, solvents, paint residues, and thinners generated have been small. The standard procedure for disposition of waste oils and solvents has been to send the wastes to designated POL waste storage tanks. No direct evidence indicates migration of hazardous contamination beyond Tyndall AFB properties. Small quantities of hazardous wastes, primarily waste solvents, have been disposed of in landfills in the past.
