Abstract : This work was performed to investigate a number of aspects of operational ocean forecasting including model initialization and forcing, physical parameterizations, and the importance of various processes that modify upper-ocean thermal structure. A synoptic mixed-layer model was used to perform numerical simulations in the TRANSPAC region of the Central North Pacific. The multilevel model incorporates the Mellor and Yamada (1974) Level-2 turbulence parameterization and advection by wind-drift currents. (Author)
