Abstract : The base transmission systems, existing in most Air Force locations today are composed of various size, age, quality, and quantity, of multiple paired cables. Expansion or changes to these systems are best accomplished in a planned, systematic way, taking maximum advantages of the various media and technologies currently available. Some considerations for effecting a planned approach to the base transmission systems include the knowledge of subscriber needs, future requirements, physical plant utilization, technology available, and cost for the various options available. This report provides information on some methodologies, design factors and cost trade-offs that can be analyzed to determine the optimum trade-off approach for a given set of transmission circumstances.
