Abstract : This document has been developed to provide you, the base civil engineer, with guidance in managing the forest lands at your installation as outlined in AFR 126-1, Chapter 4. Procedures and regulations which are printed elsewhere in Air Force publications will not be repeated here. However, you will find suggestions for developing the technical provisions, for which you are responsible, of sales and service contracts. If you do not employ full-time forestry personnel, you will find this document especially useful. A sustained revenue may be derived from selling forest products during the rotation period of the forest. For example, pulpwood, firewood, and fence posts may be the intermediate products of a timber crop. Receipts from the sale of forest products can be used to finance your forest management program in accordance with AFR 126-1, Chapter 4. Your major responsibility, as the base civil engineer, in managing forest land on the installation is the preparation of contracts for services and sales (AF DAR Sup (C3) para 4-5203). It is important for you to realize that forest management is based on the forest management plan for your installation which will serve as your guide in conducting forest management operations.
