Abstract : This research will study the effects of exposure to the stressors of a simulated survival shelter on decision making. A proposed 5 year effort is summarized that involves a literature search, the development of a test battery to assess the decision making skill, tests in simulated shelters, and the development of strategies to assist in the decision making process. Corollary efforts involve the use of the bicycle ventilating device for charging nickel-cadmium dry cell batteries and relationship between shelter occupant density and shelter occupant numbers. This, the first report of the project, contains an annotated bibliography of the research on the effects upon behavior, of the stressors of temperature, crowding, sleep disturbances, panic, stress, and anxiety. In addition, a survey was conducted which identified 93 problem areas for the survival shelter occupant. These fell equally into three main categories: survival shelter, personal, and environment.
