Abstract : A new era in military microelectronics is unfolding. The Department of Defense, in 1979, initiated a six-year tri-service Very High Speed Integrated Circuits (VHSIC) Program that will develop a new technology base for integrated circuits. This program has the potential of producing systems-on-a-chip capability. VHSIC, with its high density circuits, promises drastic reductions in size, weight, and power requirements, while still yielding higher levels of reliability and performance. (Author)
