Abstract : This essay examines the nature and scope of peacekeeping operations, defines peacekeeping as applied today and discusses the advantages and disadvantages of direct participation in peacekeeping operations by the United States. The essay examines the United States' participation in the multinational force peacekeeping in the Sinai and in Beirut and then concludes by making recommendations on how United States' participation in peacekeeping operations could be improved in general and in Beirut specifically.
