Abstract : Advanced experimental techniques in crack tip mechanics are discussed under three categories of 2- and 3-D linear elastic, 2-D elasto-plastic and 2-D dynamic fracture mechanics. Specific techniques which were discussed are acousto-elasticity, frozen stress-moire technique, isodyne photoelasticity, moire technique, laser speckle method, hybrid experimental-numerical analysis and caustic method.
