Abstract : The Seafloor Geosciences Division now provides the Navy with expanded and advanced capabilities to conduct comprehensive geological, geophysical, and geotechnical investigations of the sea floor and sub-sea floor. Basic and applied research studies contribute to the fundamental knowledge of the oceanic crust and overlying sediments and the effective utilization of the sea floor. Interdiscipolinary seafloor science and engineering investigations are ongoing in support of navy problems, systems design, construction, and operations. Studies provide quantitative and qualitative description and understanding of the seafloor geological materials and environmental parameters directed toward advancing the state-of-the-art. This informal report is a summary of the Seafloor Geosciences Divisions research accomplishments and professional activities for 1982 and early 1983. The purpose is to provide NORDA Management and NORDA Offices (Codes) with a timely document on the Division's productivity and accomplishments.
