Abstract : This study reassesses the critical static buckling load of a ring reinforced circular shell as obtained by the nonlinear finite element code STAGS for a variety of boundary conditions and compares it more conclusively with values from other sources. The influence of a rectangular opening on the elastic buckling strength is also addressed. A modeling procedure is being recommended for such problems.
