Abstract : Lecture Series 127 is concerned with high frequency communications and is sponsored by the Electromagnetic Wave Propagation Panel of AGARD and implemented by the Consultant and Exchange Programme. The aim of the lectures is to survey problems and progress in the field of HF COMMUNICATIONS. The lectures cover needs of both the civil and military communities for high frequency communications. Concepts of real time channel evaluation, system design, as well as advances in equipment, in propagation, and in coding and modulation techniques are covered. The lectures are aimed to bring non-specialists in this field up to date to so that HF COMMUNICATIONS can be considered as a viable technique at this time. The problems, difficulties and limitations of HF will also be outlined. (Author)
