Abstract : Hydraulic model study was conducted to characterize the dynamic process of deep-draft vessel's sea-chest fouling and to assess the flow patterns generated by suction and discharge of the sea chests in confined spaces. Onboard solutions were developed to minimize fouling of the sea chests by introducing diffuser structures at the discharge sea chests. A numerical model for assessing the flow patterns and suction foulings was also developed.
