Abstract : During the past yer a theoretical study of lase ionization mass spectroscopy has been completed. The study evaluated laser ionization combined with Fourier transform mass spectroscopy. A second generation single crystal fiber growth machine has been completed and high quality fibers of sapphire have been grown. Rapid progress in the growth and evaluation of small diameter single crystal fibers for nonlinear optical device application is being made. Theoretical model studies for laser plasma pumping of indium ion for a vacuum ultraviolet laser source have been carried out. Experiments have been initiated. The laser produced plasma X-ray source to other X-ray sources such as synchrotron and rotating anodes have been studied and compared. It is clear that the laser plasma X-ray source has an important role to play in soft X-ray spectroscopy, X-ray lithography and X-ray microscopy.
